Kadak is how I describe this chai, meaning strong. Kadak is also how I describe the persevering and powerful women in my life, and this chai is a reminder of the joy and peace felt when they’d brew and spice a pot of it to share as a family in the mornings and evenings.

I started Z Spice for a simple and unequivocal reason - this feeling needed to be shared. I struggled to find the chai I loved outside my home. Chai at various places fell flat and failed to replicate the precise blend of spices (and don’t even get me started on chai lattes at cafes). They lacked the authenticity, love, and care I got accustomed to my chai having.

So, I took my Nani’s (grandmother) chai recipe and started making a fresh chai masala to share with the world.

Drinking chai should be a staple, signifying the start to a productive day, and contrastingly, the end of it, as part of a longstanding ritual to kick off your shoes and commence the relaxation of the evening. In a way, chai delivers the essence of the hardworking women that have made it for their household for centuries, and at the same time, the comfort they provide that can make any stress go away.
